Google has introduced Gemma 3, its latest advancement in artificial intelligence. Designed for developers, Gemma 3 enables the creation of AI applications across a range of devices, from phones to workstations. Supporting over 35 languages, it can analyze text, images, and short videos.
According to Google, Gemma 3 outperforms competing models like Facebook’s Llama, DeepSeek, and OpenAI on a single GPU. It is optimized for Nvidia GPUs and specialized AI hardware. With an enhanced vision encoder, it supports high-resolution and non-square images. The new ShieldGemma 2 image safety classifier can filter content deemed sexually explicit, dangerous, or violent.
To promote Gemma 3, Google is offering Google Cloud credits and has launched the Gemma 3 Academic program, providing $10,000 in credits to accelerate research efforts.
