The core functionality of Cowork lies in its ability to access and manipulate files within a user-specified folder. Unlike a standard chat session, Cowork can independently execute multi-step plans. Whether it’s intelligently renaming and sorting hundreds of messy downloads, extracting data from receipt screenshots into structured spreadsheets, or synthesizing scattered meeting notes into a cohesive report, Cowork handles the digital "drudgery" that typically consumes hours of human effort.
Safety remains a top priority in this research preview. Cowork operates within a sandboxed environment, ensuring that Claude only interacts with files it has been granted explicit permission to see.
