Google Unveils Nano Banana 2: Pro-Level AI Image Generation at Flash Speed

Google DeepMind officially launched Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image) on February 26, 2026, marking a significant milestone in AI-powered image generation. The new model unifies the strongest capabilities of both the original Nano Banana, which became a viral sensation last year, and the studio-grade Nano Banana Pro, delivering them at the lightning-fast speed of Google's Flash architecture.

Among the standout features of Nano Banana 2 are advanced world knowledge, production-ready output specs, and precision text rendering. The model draws from Gemini's real-world knowledge base and leverages real-time web search data to render specific subjects with greater accuracy. It supports professional use cases such as infographic creation, note-to-diagram conversion, and data visualization, with output resolutions ranging from 512px to 4K. Subject consistency has also been significantly enhanced, allowing users to maintain character resemblance for up to five characters and object fidelity for up to 14 items within a single workflow.

Nano Banana 2 is being rolled out across a wide range of Google products. In the Gemini app, it replaces Nano Banana Pro across Fast, Thinking, and Pro models, while Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers retain access to Nano Banana Pro for specialized tasks. The model is also available in Google Search through AI Mode and Lens, in AI Studio and the Gemini API for developers, as the default generation model in Flow at zero credit cost, and within Google Ads for campaign asset creation. Availability is expanding to 141 new countries and territories with support for eight additional languages.

On the provenance and safety front, Google is strengthening its approach to identifying AI-generated content by combining SynthID watermarking technology with interoperable C2PA Content Credentials. Since its launch in November, the SynthID verification feature in the Gemini app has been used over 20 million times. With C2PA verification coming soon to the Gemini app, Google aims to provide users with a more comprehensive understanding of how AI has been used in the content they encounter. Nano Banana 2 represents Google's commitment to making high-quality AI image generation faster, more accessible, and more transparent.
